Our house is going to the birds. Or at least the living room is. Check out this wall art I just made yesterday:
In case you were wondering, yes,
it's just above the green chair.
(I love green.)
Okay, okay, I admit it: this isn't an original idea of mine. If you want to see the instructions, go here. And if you want to see where I originally found it, go here. I like finding funky art with instructions, and I just couldn't pass this one up. The idea, perhaps, is not original, but the final product certainly is, which is important.
I, as usual, deviated from the prescribed course because I have an insatiable desire to constantly experiment with my household projects, which usually mean roughly 85% of them end up being held together with some hot glue and many fervent prayers to whomever the Patron Saint of Half-Assedness is. This time my experimentation worked in my favor, and I'm 99% happy with the results. (I won't even tell you what I'm just ever-so-slightly unhappy with. I'll let you remain blissfully ignorant.) I used scrapbooking paper for both the birds and the branches, and I incorporated some 3D elements by using highly glittered gold and green Christmas picks in the form of small fern fronds. The gal who first did this project keeps it all very 2D, but I like things popping out at me. This love of things-popping-out-at-me is also why, even though I was highly careful with my Mod-Podge for the first time ever (usually I'm content to glop it on 3 layers thick, never waiting a proper length of time for drying in between coats), I'm also completely at peace with the few bubbles that did show up. They make for some interesting three-dimensional bits.
Oh, and the canvas itself? $15 in a thrift store. Ideally I would have found one framed, but I wasn't finding any big enough that were correspondingly cheap enough. People seemed to think I actually wanted the art painted onto the canvas and was therefore willing to pay for said art. As if. I found this bad boy (it's something like 3 feet X 2.5 feet), fell in love with its size, resigned myself to a life without a lovely frame, and painted over the original pukey cafe scene. And I'm okay with that.
I love the colors. I love the birds. I love the bigness of it all.
Also, I love Charlotte pretending to be a bird just underneath the new bird picture.
Isn't her innocent little face so sweet? 13 months old, and I'm still trying to figure out who she looks like.
You might remember me blogging about how Janie made this hat for Charlotte's Christmas present last year. I'm determined to make it fit this winter, too, even though it's kind of perching on her forehead at this point.
Finally, on another Charlotte-related note, I'd like to share Charlotte's newfound interest: stripping.
The first time I got up to get her from a nap and found her stripped nearly to her skivvies was something of a surprise. Now it's just old hat. We love Charlotte very much, clothed or nekkid.

I love Charlotte's hat very much.
I figured it was time to out myself as a lurker before Candice beat me to it, which she said she'd do, just after she tried to convince me that ME reading your blog wasn't creepy. And in case you DON'T remember me, which is expected, I am one of Candice's old friends from the Central era.
So yes, I lurk and I enjoy your writing and I read it often and your green chair is my favorite chair I've seen in 2009. Maybe longer. I don't keep track.
Jori! Of course I remember you. I'm so glad you came out of the lurking closet, so to speak. I like knowing my readers, and actually KNOWING a reader (you know, like I've met you in real life) is a real treat. Keep up the comments!
And I'm glad you like the chair. It makes me so deeply happy, like down to my bones. My one wish is that you find such a chair for yourself someday.
Your new picture is funky. I like it! I especially love the pretend bird under said picture. She looks cuddly in that adorable sweater and hat! I loved seeing the 3 babes when David and I were in Chicago.
