Our daily Advent prayers have been particularly enjoyable--Stephen has done a great job of choosing relevant, meaningful prayers and I like anticipating the words we pray together as a family each day. At the beginning of each week he includes a prayer for that particular week, a prayer with a particular theme, and we tape that overarching prayer to our fridge so that we will read it more often than just once and maybe, just maybe, let the words influence us a little beyond the normal, fleeting prayer. The prayer for this week, the second week of Advent, is as follows:
"O King of all nations, Jesus Christ, only joy of every heart, come and save your people."
And the prayer for today, which I found particularly poignant, for its plea of aid and air of expectancy, follows here:
"Father in heaven, the day draws near when the glory of your Son will make radiant the night of the waiting world. May the lure of greed not impede us from the joy which moves the hearts of those who seek him. May the darkness not blind us to the vision of wisdom which fills the minds of those who find him. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. Amen."
Just thought you'd like to know what we believe.

A few moments ago I grew suspicious of what the boys might be doing, as they had gotten uncharacteristically quiet. Suddenly visions of the worst possible offenses filled my mind: our record albums quietly being scratched beyond use; the toilet paper being unravelled and stuffed in the heating grate; the boys somehow getting in the locked cabinets, drinking cleaning agents, and subsequently feeding said cleaning agents to the dog and cat. (A mother's mind...) I quickly looked to see what they were doing and was pleasantly surprised to find them huddled together next to the dining room table, happily shoving their socks onto their hands and then giggling at each other.

Steve and I have been talking about our various crushes recently, as he seems to think I am in love with a particular vampire. (I have no idea what gives him that idea.) So I decided to bare my soul and let y'all know just who I'm going to marry next time, my preferences in no particular order and in no particular reality:
- Edward Cullen (duh)
- Captain Jean-Luc Picard... not Patrick Stewart, mind you, but Captain Picard
- Justin Timberlake
- Gilbert Blythe
- Hugh Grant, particularly if he acts anything like his character in Notting Hill
- Mr. Darcy (of course I'm fiercely loyal to Colin and the BBC adaptation, but I just need to say that Matthew Macfadyen crossing the field in the early morning fog at the end of the new P&P makes me tingle, just tingle)
I should probably stop there before my husband has a heart attack. I need everyone to remember that I did in fact marry Stephen--that's the important thing to keep in mind here.
And now that I feel like a complete idiot, I'm going to stalk off and wrap some presents.

I couldn't find a way to e-mail you so I'll just leave the "How to post a picture to your header" info here.
If you go to the change layout screen and then click on the header you should see a menu of things to do. One of them is add a picture and it will also ask if you want it to fit to size. Make sure you check that button. Upload your picture and then save. It really is very easy. If you can't figure it out, let me know.
Also, I'm glad the potty training idea is helping. It seems odd, but it works.
P.S. It is nice to meet you.
Just another note, you want to click the button so it shows up behind your Title and Description, unless you have your title in your picture, then you'd choose instead of.
Also, you are clicking on the header "edit" button.
Hey Christine!
This is Emily Hinch... I was just reading your blog and wanted to let you know that I, too, have a secret crush on Mr. Darcy. I, also, am insanely loyal to the BBC version and actually refused to watch the re-make for quite some time. And yes, I have all (six, I believe) VIDEOS at home. Someone recently gave me the DVD's so I guess I'm upgrading. :)
I just had to share - there are very few of us, I think! Also, from one mom to another, I write this as I have a basket full of unfolded laundry (a giant pet peeve of mine), a sink full of dirty dishes, I have not yet showered for the day, little T.J. is still in his pajamas and I'm bouncing him on my knee. Clearly, I have my priorities in line! I hope you guys are feeling better and we should get together soon!
Your header turned out great!!
Oh, and I have to say that I am partial to the "new" Mr. Darcy. Seriously, those eyes and him walking across the field and the way his hand tingled when he touched her. Anyway, I think it might be because he was my first Mr. Darcy.
I might as well leave you another comment. I mean really, 4 on one post isn't at all strange.
I am passing along an award to you. There are some stipulations, but if you would like it just check out my blog.
Have a great day!
I'll just come right out and say it: I love any and all characteristics, actors, accents, phrases, jackets, rolling hills, etc. even remotely resembling Mr. Darcy and/or Colin Firth and/or Matthew MacFadyen.
There's no secret about it.
I'm gonna have to vote for Gilbert Blythe. Ever since I read the books, then saw the movies, I have been in love with him. If a guy like that can love a crazy girl like Anne Shirley, maybe there's hope for a girl like me. :D
