I skipped Not Me! Monday yesterday because MckMama did (albeit for a much better excuse than my tiredness), therefore letting me off the hook. Incidentally, if you've never seen that blog, I encourage you to visit and witness her family's incredible story. What a great testimony of the Lord's healing power. Plus, she obviously loves to write and has young kids very close in age--I can relate to her on many levels!
We are once again battling sickness here at the Case Casa. The boys are in the final stages of their illnesses, which means they are miserably battling through coughing fits. Steve is right with them--he has slept sitting up on the couch for three nights straight now, and even that sacrifice can't keep the coughing jags at bay. (I heard him running the shower at around one this morning, in hopes that the steam would calm his irritated throat.) I'm dealing with the beginning symptoms: runny nose, sinus pressure, you know. The one good thing in all of this is that Charlotte isn't showing any signs of being sick, and we hope to keep it that way.
Speaking of our little Widget (you wouldn't believe the funny nicknames we have for her... Skittlebug, Fat Bottom, Stinklemuffin--it's pretty ridiculous), she had her two-month checkup yesterday and was a raging success. She weighs in at 11 lbs, 2 oz., and was measured at just over 24 inches long. Her length was the talk of the office, I assure you, as were the charming smiles she gave her doctor. And she just broke my heart with her tears when she got her shots. I am absolutely in love with her.
In other news, I am triumphant to announce that I have successfully scheduled haircuts for the boys for 9 AM tomorrow. Nothing will stand between me and those trims, nothing! Josh has assured me that he will not be in costume tomorrow, which is no doubt a very good thing.
Oh, yes, I would be remiss if I didn't comment on the extremely serious nature of today, Election Day 2008. Stephen and I voted last week, which proved to be a stroke of genius on our parts, as we have absolutely no opportunity to do it today. (Illinois is one of the states that offers early voting, no questions asked, and we dutifully stood in line for 45+ minutes to cast our ballots last Thursday.) I will never tell anyone for whom I voted, and I am secretly glad that we don't have a TV anymore, as I can't be tempted to watch the election coverage and get boiling mad, as I am wont to do when politics are concerned. When I was in high school I desperately wanted to be the Speaker of the House, no joke, and seriously considered a degree in Political Science for a time. It's a good thing I dropped that scheme, as I probably would have keeled over from high blood pressure already.
We are still doing very well without a television to distract us. Each Sunday afternoon and evening we hang out with my family at my parents' house, where we get our fix of The Simpsons and The Office episodes that we have missed. (I like taking advantage of their DVR.) We are continually looking for new things to keep us entertained in the evenings, as the early darkness tends to make us want to hunker down inside and sit very close together. Last night Stephen made a "nest" on the living room floor, using blankets, pillows, and the coffee table to create a cozy fort. Baylor and Jack entertained themselves crawling in, around, and through that for awhile before settling down to watch a Little Einsteins DVD on the laptop. Another form of entertainment we are indulging in is the lost art of playing the piano. I took formal piano and theory lessons, which resulted in state competitions and many lengthy memorized recitals, from second grade through my sophomore year of college, and I have sadly let my practicing slip in the last several months. Now we like to play as a family to while away the long evenings:
Also, Charlotte is a doll...
...despite our ugly armchair (and her male pattern baldness.)
Finally, I will close with a shot I managed to capture yesterday, providing evidence that the squirrels are indeed out to discourage my fall spirit. I had thought that the two big pumpkins would be too much for them, but I was proven wrong. We actually saw the offending rodent inside of the pumpkin before he ran off. Here you see him taunting us from the porch steps:
If anyone has any suggestions for next year, please let me know. I am not above making an example of any one squirrel.
And now I really have to go... Baylor just ran in and handed me a banana. No telling where the rest of the bunch has ended up. Have a blessed day! Try not to get too stressed out watching the coverage tonight. The world will go on, no matter the outcome, and God will always be in control, no matter the power of the U.S. president.

I have seriously considered running for senate. Although I don't think I could handle the mud slinging, not on me, but my family. It's great to know someone else had such high aspirations.
You're poor kids! You can probably thank breastfeeding for Charlotte not getting sick! Another good reason to do it.
As for your squirrel problem, the only thing I can think of that kept them from mine is the dog. I never even see them in the front yard anymore. He doesn't bark, but they just seem to sense him and stay far away!
