Think Before Speaking

This morning Stephen and I were having a lighthearted argument about Christmas shopping. I had told him I was afraid we would run out of Christmas money for presents. He ran through the short list of relatives for whom we still want to buy gifts, and when he finished I reminded him that I have yet to buy him anything. He, in true Stephen fashion, informed me that I didn't need to get him any presents. When I argued, he suggested I do something for him, like "fix a big meal" (as if I don't do this every day.) I told him that wasn't likely, and then made this grand statement:

"I have to give you a present. That's what Christmas is all about!"

Pause.

We then dissolved into fits of giggles, marveling at my stupidity.

Silly Christine. Christmas isn't about you getting me presents. It's about me getting you presents.
