Before I had a baby girl, I swore up and down that I would never make my future daughter(s) wear headbands as babies because I thought they looked silly, especially on bald babies. Oh, I had all kinds of opinions on baby hair/head accessories, and I wasn't ever going to waver from my firm convictions.
Then I had a baby girl.
And that baby girl has a Gamma who loves bows.
And that Gamma knows how to find bows that even the baby girl's mother (that would be me) can tolerate and even, dare I say it, love.
Fortunately my baby girl has a nice head of dark, fluffy hair, because I still, despite my willingness to change, think that completely bald babies look just a little silly with large, brightly-colored bows. And I'm picky about Miss Charlotte's bows. She currently possesses two, one pink and one light green, that are tasteful, feminine, and dressy, quite unlike the dime-a-dozen variety available at Target.
Well, over the weekend my mom and I searched for yet another bow for Miss C. We were looking for a red one to complete her Christmas outfit. (In case you care, she has a darling solid black jacket with ivory pants that feature a black floral pattern. She is our Baby Fashion Plate.) Nowhere could we find a simple, solid red bow that still managed to make a statement. Specifically, we wanted that statement to be, "I am gorgeous. I am sassy. I know how to make things interesting."
Nowhere was such a loaded-with-meaning bow to be found, so today I piddled around on one of my favorite sites, etsy.com. Oh, this site sends shivers down my spine. I love buying handmade, I love trying to shop locally, I love everything about this online community! And you know what?
I found it! I found the bow! Take a look.
Isn't it divine? It straddles the line between ridiculous and oh-I-am-going-to-melt-that-is-so-cute, and it's ALL MINE!! Er, I mean, it's all Charlotte's. I bought it, so don't even think about trying to get it yourself. Although I am sure that this seller makes a lot of them so, yes, you probably could get it for yourself. And Charlotte would consider such a move a compliment, because she loves this bow. She stared at the computer screen for a full two minutes as I oooed and aaaahed over it and all of its amazing features, like a hand-crocheted, 3-inch band, detachable flower, and tiny Swarovski crystals to create just the slightest bling factor. We are officially in love.
But wait! There's more! Did you think I could stop there?
I also picked up this darling little hand-crocheted beanie cap from the same seller, who I am sure is a kindred spirit with a lot better hand-eye coordination than I have. It's hot pink! With a daisy! And the baby model is wearing hot pink bloomers and a pearl necklace!
[Side note: Dear readers, you should know that I did in fact call my long-suffering husband and regale him with heroic tales of ordering these accessories, and he actually listened to me. Perhaps he was doing something else simultaneously, but I am honored that he at least pretended.]
So watch out, Charlotte. In three to five business days, you are going to be the hippest, most colorful, most blinged-out baby this side of the Mississippi.
And you folks watch out, too, because I also ordered two pairs of leg warmers for the boys in preparation for potty training, one in orange argyle and one in multi-colored stripes. Stay tuned for pictures most likely featuring Jack wearing leg warmers on his head and/or arms!

Christine, you never cease to crack me up! Have a blessed Thanksgiving.
You used to not be this way.
So, I know this is very random and you don't know me very much if at all, (i was on Janie's freshman dorm floor) but I love reading your blog.. You have such cute kids, and the way you write is very entertaining.
I love the bow and hat!! Cute!! I'm also addicted to etsy, it's just fantastic.
I'm so excited about the leg warmers! Did you get baby legs? I wish Oliver had some!
Oliver had a good 15 beautiful successes today on the potty - I really think it was a breakthrough day. By the end of the night he was hollering "potty, Mommy!" every 2.5 minutes and running to the bathroom, peeing whatever little bit of pee he could produce, and flushing with a flourish, promptly requesting 2 mini marshmallows (indicated, not by raising his index and middle finger like the average person, but by raising both index fingers firmly in front of his face). He's a nut! I played along, knowing that he was just really excited about his newfound skill and was having a blast practicing. Oh, the small victories of a two-year-old!
Thanks for letting me talk about pee on your blog!!
